Job Description

The benefits analyst position is responsible for performing benefits administrative work and providing analysis of various benefit programs and initiatives.

  • Administer various employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 401(k), and wellness benefits.
  • Administer assigned functions, such as compensation studies, leave and benefits administration.
  • Ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Manage special projects.
  • Conduct benefits orientations and explain benefits self-enrollment system. 
  • Maintain employee benefits records and ensure benefits changes are processed appropriately in payroll system for payroll deduction.
  • Perform regular audits to ensure accuracy of benefits data
  • Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs.
  • Resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives.
  •  Perform research, data modeling and analysis for various retirement and health benefits, including contributions.
  • Review, analyze, and ensure accuracy of data for both internal use and for transmission to consultants and vendors.
  • Create and manage reporting from Human Resources Information System.
  • Manage data file transfers with vendors and manage set up of new vendor inbound and outbound files.
  • Support annual audit process of benefit plans and regulatory filings; provide accurate benefits administration and regulatory compliance
  • Conduct studies, perform research and prepare reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in human resources, public administration or related field and two years of human resource experience; or any combination of education, training or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.


  • Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree in Business or Human Resources
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, time management, multi-tasking, and decision making skill
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel with ability to utilize formula functions
  • The ability to build and maintain professional working relationships within and outside The Fresh Market
  • The ideal candidate will be proactive, analytical, detail oriented, highly motivated, and understand the sense of urgency and confidentiality requirements associated with this position

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Prior benefit analyst or benefit coordinator experience
  • Benefits certifications: CEBS, CBP, GBA or RPA
  • Knowledge of Ultipro
  • Experience with Cognos and SQL

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
